How to repair leaking pipes
There are two basic ways to repair leaking pipes. The first is by sealing the pipe, and the second method is by cutting off the damaged pipe part. It’s a professional plumber who will be able to decide which the better option for your damaged pipe is. Leaks arising from loose plumbing fixtures or minor cracks are resolved in a few minutes. We replace the leaking, broken pipe by welding it with another piece.
Sometimes it’s the pipes outside your home that spring a leak. We use the best technologies to quickly and thoroughly inspect and repair pipes even outside your home. We explain the extent of damage and estimate how much it will cost you before starting repairs.
Faucet repair outside
Anyone and everyone in Toronto knows how bitter cold the temperatures are in winter. The cold leads to various problems like stalled vehicles, high heating bills, and frozen pipes, and plumbing lines. The temperatures are so low in winter in Toronto that it freezes the pipes and the water you need for drinking, washing, and cleaning. We know how much your life depends on water, so we help keep a continuous flow of water even in winter. We will both repair frozen pipes and prevent pipes from freezing and icing through thawing.Â
- Problem identification and isolation
- Providing a temporary solution for everyday activities
- Thawing the frozen pipes
Why do pipes freeze in Toronto?
It’s simple- it’s all because of the cold, bitter winter and fundamental physics. Sometimes the water in exposed residential or commercial pipes that aren’t insulated with a thermal wrap can freeze on chilly nights or days. It’s a known fact that water expands and increases in pressure when frozen. Besides, various components like kwc faucet valves and water heater regulate the temperature of water in your plumbing lines.
Water once frozen stops flowing, and also stresses the pipes so much that they may burst. It can not only cause a leak but also lead to severe water damage.Pipes freezing are a seasonal problem. However, it sometimes lasts longer in improperly installed or insulated pipes, and where temperatures remain sub-zero for a few days.
What do I do if my pipes freeze in winter?
No pipe, regardless of its material type, is termed safe from the cold winter temperatures. While PVC pipes rarely explode, the slightest crack can lead to flooding of 250 gallons of water a day! That’s why the best thing to do if there’s a leak is to turn off the main water valve till we arrive. You can then thaw the frozen line using a hairdryer or other heating appliance. Slow water flow is another sign that the pipe is freezing, and it’s better to call us immediately if you notice it. However, you needn’t worry about thawing frozen water lines or replacing old ones because we will do it for you. We have been helping the residents of Toronto and GTA with their frozen and burst water line and pipe woes for years and are now experts.
What if I’m unaware of the frozen pipes?
It’s possible that you won’t even realize that your pipes are frozen. It’s because a though you may notice a split, it takes time for water from freezing and creating a flood. So you may end up with a large ice glob, but no leak, when water expands and splits open the pipe. Besides, as ice blocks the split, it has to warm up to start leaking. It’s lucky if you are at home when it starts thawing. You will notice the damage and flooding on time and minimize loss by turning off the water. However, things won’t be as pretty if you weren’t at home!
You may end up with a flooded home if you had never noticed the leak, and it starts warming up and leaking when you are away or sleeping. Here’s an official guide for Toronto.
How to prevent frozen water pipes
Prevention is always better than cure, even in the case of frozen water pipes. Here are some things you can do to minimize the chances of your pipe freezing.- 1. Using heating cabled or insulated pipesIt’s better to install heating electric cables near the pipes so that they don’t freeze in freezing temperatures. Some additional insulation like a winter jacket on the pipes also helps prevent freezing by keeping the area warm.
- 2. Turning off appliances not used in winterIt’s better to turn off the water to faucets and appliances you won’t be using much in winter. For example, it’s better to turn off the main water supply if you will be away for a few days. It prevents freezing and possible damage in your absence. Also, disconnect outside hoses before the weather gets too cold to prevent them from freezing and damaging connecting pipes. Properly drain all exterior water pipes and bleed out the kwc faucets till there’s no water in the line. It’s especially important for areas where your water lines are not insulated properly and are vulnerable to the cold.
- 3. Increase heat around pipesKeep the garage door shut during winter months if there’s water supply running through the garage. However, keep the bathroom, and kitchen cabinets open in cold winter months to let the hot air freely circulate and prevent freezing.

Reached out to Dima Plumbing based on the overwhelming positive reviews on Homestars. Was contacted promptly by Andrei, I provided a few pictures and description of what I wanted and he was very upfront with the solution and pricing. Andrei arrived exactly when he said he would and did an amazing job installing drain baskets and piping for a new kitchen sink and copper water line to our new fridge. The work was done quickly and the quality of the install was excellent. Andrei was very pleasant to chat with throughout the entire process and I would absolutely work with him again!

May 11, 2022We hired Dima Plumbing to replace our outdoor faucet since it was rusty and our old hose was corroded stuck on it. John came on time, was polite and personable, very efficient with the job, and offered helpful tips on what do with outdoor faucets during the winter. The highlight for me was watching John work. It was a quick and straightforward replacement (less than 30 mins) but you could see the years of knowledge and experience with how smoothly John replaced the old faucet, cleaned away the years of rust and corrosion, and attached the brand new bib. It was like watching those mastercraftsmen working effortlessly with their tools to scrape and sculpt something from nothing. Highly recommend John and Dima Plumbing!

January 11, 2021My main shut off valve was experiencing a slow drip due to its age (almost 40 year old house). First, John was very prompt in providing me with a quote. When I decided to go with Dima Plumbing, John told me how I needed to co-ordinate with the city for the water shut off and told me the day he was available. On the day of the installation the city inspector was delayed all morning. Once he arrived, I texted John and he quickly made his way down within 30 minutes. He asked the inspector to stay while he installed a new ball main shutoff valve. John was done within 15 minutes thus saving me the cost of turning the water back on later in the day. Watching John work, I could tell he had a lot of experience and knew his stuff. Overall, he was very pleasant to deal with and I recommend him to anyone requiring plumbing services. You are not going to be disappointed.

October 25, 2023My parents had a kitchen sink that was clogged. Turns out there was a clog at the main stack. Both John and Andre came by to fix the situation. John came by with a snake tool but because it was the main stack it wasn’t big enough, so Andre had to come with a bigger snake tool to eventually clear the clog. Highly recommend them as they answered promptly and were available the next day. They were very friendly and upfront with the costs and were very efficient. They saved our Easter LOL If it happens again we know who to call. Roy S.
